CIA ... No, not THAT CIA

I first learned about the security concept known as CIA as a Managed IT Services Provider. I have found, however, that those same concepts of Confidentiality, Integrity and Availability can be applied to my work as an InfoPro, too.

When I talk about CIA, as an InfoPro I'm referring to my obligation as an information professional to handle your information with the utmost confidentiality and integrity while making it readily available to you and on time.

So no, I'm not talking about the government spy agency :).

As an InfoPro I will always honor these three pillars of information handling:

C -- Confidentiality
Ensuring that only authorized individuals can access your most valuable asset, your information, That means not sharing the information I develop for you, including sources, research materials and raw data, with unauthorized individuals like competitors. This includes co-workers, employees or colleagues who should not have access to such information without permission. I will also inform you of the Copyright rules for the materials I gather and your rights to use the Deliverables. Finally, it means following best security practices in my own business to keep prying eyes away.

I -- Integrity
Ensuring that your information is  accurate, up to date and from credible sources is of primary importance for an InfoPro and imperative to help you make critical business decisions. You can't make a sound decision on flawed, outdated, poorly-sourced information and the Internet is rife with that kind of information if not outright propaganda. This also means following best security practices to keep cyber criminals from accessing and maliciously changing the information I develop for you.

A -- Availability
Ensuring that the data is readily available means meeting the agreed-upon deadline for your project. It also means delivering it to you in the format and media you request and that most effectively and efficiently helps you understand the complexities of the raw data and research I gather to solve the problem or answer the question you have.

Everything I do in collecting, developing, presenting and handling data and information for your company will be guided by those three principles. For more information on how I can help you make sound decisions, submit my Contact form, contact me directly at ericm@edminfopro.com or call 302-537-4198.
